INTRO: Looping you into the EU’s tech bubble

The EU’s institutional arrangements, often based on suboptimal compromises, have matured over decades, consolidating decision-making, democratic counterbalances, and the official sanctums of power where the future of Europe is to be decided.

The average citizen's ability to participate in the vortex of policymaking is limited, if not impossible. The intricacies of European tech policymaking are just as complicated to follow for a regular policymaker, especially if one comes from a smaller bureaucracy.

The EU has vast resources, one of the biggest consumer markets in the world, talented entrepreneurs, and capable institutions that yearn to deliver us an abundant and prosperous future. Yet, except for a few niche areas, the EU remains an outsider in the global tech race, and the silver bullet for tech innovation hasn’t been found. Simultaneously, the EU faces plenty of challenges and competition, including numerous security issues.

We launched the EU Tech Loop because we want to see Europe as a strong, innovative, and fair place. A place where tech talents want to stay, where consumers and businesses alike have regulatory predictability and stability, where science institutions are motivated to commercialize their innovations, and where we cooperate with our like-minded partners from across the globe in a quest for a fair, rules-based, and secure digital environment.

We believe that the EU could benefit from a fresh and more inclusive perspective on EU tech policy dialogue. The dialogue itself is fragmented, rarely allowing a seat at the table for those far away from politics or public affairs. Apart from a few specialized media outlets, there is plenty of room for analysis that would cover the impact of the European Union's policies, proposals, and large rule-making projects from a perspective that embraces innovation and abundance as key to the flourishing of European citizens and consumers.

We hope to change it, and we invite you to help us do it.

Our goal? To facilitate better conversations and debates on the future of techdigital policy in the European Union that uphold entrepreneurial innovation, technology's disruptive potential, and the benefits these can bestow upon consumers and citizens alike. We aim to become a platform that provides value not only for citizens but also for policymakers by providing useful know-how from across the EU.

Who are we? Writers, policy analysts, and communicators who have a stake in a tech-positive, prosperous European Union. The EU Tech Loop is powered by Consumer Choice Center Europe.

Why EU Tech Loop? Simple. There aren't enough media and policy voices that believe in tech innovation and abundance as policy goals in the European Union. For those who do, there are few if any outlets willing to publish them. We will become the epicentre for these thoughts and ideas. We want to provide timely and productive news and analysis delivered straight to readers’ inboxes, and available online.

How can I best interact with the EU Tech Loop? This website is run as a self-hosted instance of Ghost, an open-source publishing platform that allows readers to subscribe to EU Tech Loop and receive articles in readable format in their inbox. If you like our content, and believe in our vision, you can subscribe to the newsletter, and also follow our accounts on social media. You know the drill.
