Wiser Regulation
EU Tech Loop, in cooperation with Consumer Choice Center Europe, believes the EU’s Better Regulation principles should be updated and modernised.
The EU does indeed need faster, more agile ways to develop and adopt legislation that is crucial for European prosperity and safety, but not at the expense of transparency, evidence-based policymaking, or meaningful consultation, which have always been cornerstones of balanced, democratic dialogue within the EU.
Speed must not become a substitute for scrutiny and democratic policymaking. The EU should ensure clear impact assessments, facilitate open dialogue with stakeholders, and provide equal opportunities for all parties to engage in meaningful debate.
This pilot project is dedicated to showcasing the flaws in the current Better Regulation principles and proposing constructive ways based on our analysis and best practices from across the EU to improve them. We will also analyse the European Commission’s Calls for Evidence and Public Consultations for individual legislative initiatives, the Commission’s summaries of those calls and consultations, and the public discourse surrounding those initiatives.
